The New Study Design in Five Minutes

A quick overview of the upcoming study design for those who want to take the first steps towards implementing the necessary changes. Please note, this post is brief by design - for a more in-depth look at the design and further information about the changes, consider The English Lab’s upcoming webinar.

What’s new? What’s changed? What’s different?

So we know the current design well - what changes do we need to get our heads around? What do we need to learn and what can we let go?

Unit One

We dive right into the deep end with three new forms of assessment being used in Unit One. We’ll need to spend time discussing how we’ll teach a personal response to texts and what key idea will be the focus of our Crafting Texts unit.

Unit Two

Ahh, back to familiarity! A text response essay and some argument analysis. However, there are new assessments and further tweaks to how students need to view and analyse argumentative pieces of writing.

Unit Three

Playing for keeps with scored assessment in the ‘Creating Texts’ unit. Which idea will your school choose from the framework of ideas?

Unit Four

Texts and arguments - a familiar stomping ground. However, questions will be asked as to how we can use the slight changes in language in this design to help our teaching of text interpretation and argument analysis evolve.

Finally, a handy overview for you to screenshot or print, just to keep you on track!
